A Victorian rosewood two-day marine chronometer, circa 1867
The silvered and engraved dial signed John Poole, MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY, 57, Fenchurch St. London. 4013 with subsidiary dials for seconds and up/down dials with blued steel hands, gold minute hand, later hour hand, the movement with spotted plates, chain fusee, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement, cut bimetallic balance with circular heat compensation weights and Poole's auxilliary, brass gimbal and bowl numbered 4013, the brass-bound box with handles to the sides, vacant brass cartouche to the top lid, the front of the mid section applied with a bone plaque engraved JOHN POOLE, 57, Fenchurch Street, London, No.4013; with double-ended brass tipsy winding key - the box 7in. square
