The case with ogee moulded caddy top above the dial with hinged glazed door to the silvered Vernier scale signed T. Astley, flanked by a mercurial thermometer, the trunk with quarter columns and central visible mercury tube flanked by two lines of boxwood and ebony chequer inlay, the base terminating with a restored turned mahogany cistern cover -- 38½ in.(98.7 cm.) high
