A George III oak longcase clock, circa 1780
The hood with swan neck pediment and outset ringed columns, lacking glass, the crossbanded and arched trunk door flanked by fluted three-quarter columns, the plinth with canted angles and raised on bracket feet, the 14in. cut-away brass dial with foliate spandrels to a Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, the centre engraved with scrolls and with seconds and date rings, signed J. Grundy WHALLEY, pierced and blued steel hands, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 80in. (203cm.) high
