A George I japanned longcase clock, circa 1725
The hood with stepped caddy top, glazed side panels, lacking columns, the breakarch trunk door with moulded frame, on stepped plinth, the japanning with various damages, the 12in. brass dial with wheatear engraved border and female mask foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and signed Edward Stevens Boston, the matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring, engraving around the date aperture and ringed winding holes, pendulum regulation ring to the arch (connection lacking), the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 90¼in. (229cm.) high
