CLARK GABLE SHIRT
1939
A fancy dress shirt made for Clark Gable as he portrayed Rhett Butler, the role that garnered him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Made of light-beige cotton with an eyelet-fabric ruffled front, this piece has two inside labels reading Tailored by J.T. Beach Los Angeles and CG while a Western Costume Company stamp appears on the bottom inside hem. Though very similar to the one he wears in the Bazaar scene, this particular shirt was not used in the final version of the film as Selznick famously dictated that many of Gable's 'Rhett' costumes be changed, this being one of them.
