'READING OR TEST SCENE' DOCUMENT
1937
A very early four page document typed on pink paper dated 11-27-37 with the title page reading Reading or Test Scene -- Scarlett Rhett -- Rhett proposes to Scarlett which was used for actors to audition for the two main roles. Covering pages 191 to 193 of some version of the script, the scene outlined is the one when Rhett tells Scarlett that she is "...like a thief who isn't sorry he stole, but it terribly sorry he's going to jail" and continues on when he proposes marriage to her by saying "You've been married to a boy and an old man. Why not try a husband of the right age, with a way with women?" Unfortunately, this piece has been worn in half due to its handling (possibly by the actors themselves), but all pages are still legible.
