A fine scale model of the last great trans-Atlantic ocean liner. The hull of the model is built up from wood with black painted topsides, a red bottom, and a white waterline. The sides of the model above the sheer line are painted white, and the decks are painted a pale green. The model is well detailed with anchors, bollards, cargo booms, search lights, main mast, two funnels painted in United States Lines livery, life boats on davits, rafts, deck railings, port holes, vents, and other details. The model is mounted on a blue baseboard.

The United States was built by Newport News SB & DD Co., to become the fastest commercial ship ever built. She was first floated in the building dock on Jun. 23, 1951, and in 1952 went on her maiden voyage from New York to Southampton, breaking all speed records. Then, in 1969, she was laid up ay Newport news, and later Hampton Roads. After being purchased by the US Maritime Administration, she was laid up again and has been in Norfolk VA ever since. Her principle dimensions were 990 LOA, 101.7 Beam, and her gross tonnage was 53, 329.
