A Builder's Half Model Of A New York Pilot Boat

The model is carved from pine, in built up in fourteen lifts plus separate lifts for the sheer line and the topsides. This model is mounted on a old pine backboard with a routed edge (probably later).
12 x 50 in. (31.1 x 127 cm.) backboard dimensions.

Lot Essay

This model shows the very familiar lines of the early New York Pilot boats. These boats, which were very fast and stable, carried the local harbor pilots out to larger arriving ships in the outer New York harbor.
