Electrifying performance, sensational looks and unbelievable value for money at $5,595 list price made the E-Type Jaguar the sensation of the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Jaguar's creator Sir William Lyons' instinct for line, proportion and decoration resulted in a masterpiece of design that was also one of the fastest road going cars of the time. The E-Type derived from the evolution of the C-Type's tubular chassis, the D-Type sports racer's central monocoque and the fully independent suspension of E2A, which was raced at the Le Mans 24 hours by Briggs Cunningham in 1960. This classic Jaguar model was originally powered by a 3.8 litre engine, then upgraded to 4.2 and then gained even more superior performance in 1971 when the 5.3 litre V12 was made available. This was Jaguar's first new engine since the debut of the XK120. With 241 horsepower and the smooth V12, the Jaguar was a refined yet exciting car aimed firmly at the GT sector of the market. Prior to 1971 only Ferrari and Lamborghini provided this combination, but with less refinement and at a much higher price. The 1974 V12 E-Type cost a mere $8,475 basic compared to a Ferrari Dino at $15,225 and a Mercedes 450SL at $15,450!

Painstakingly restored to show condition, this late Series III roadster with automatic transmission was privately owned by Mr. Herb Friedlander from 1976 until recently. Mr. Friedlander was a well known car dealer and landowner in the Los Angeles area in the 1960s and 70s. The car has covered only 34,700 miles from new. A US-supplied model, this magnificent diplomat from Browns Lane benefits from the installation of air conditioning as standard and proudly sits on chrome wire wheels with whiteband tires. The car has recently been completely restored and this has included repainting and retrimming, as well as rebuilding the engine as necessary.

Well-mannered and smooth, Jaguar's V12 is a dormant beast; when teased by an enthusiastic right foot, a glorious symphony is unleashed and to many this even eclipses that of Modena's finest. Presented in superb condition throughout, this finely restored example is a tribute to one of the automotive world's greatest ever icons and we would very much recommend closer inspection.
