This work is registered in the archives of the Calder Foundation, New York under application number A00374.
In 1975, the Whitney mounted the large-scale retrospective, Calder's Universe, for which Calder created a number of drawings to be used as chapter introductions for the catalogue. We are pleased to offer three of these drawings (lots 788, 793, 799) which respectively preceded chapters entitled Oil Paintings, Theatrical Productions and Toys. The present drawing is a rare self-portrait--Calder is shown in the foreground.
