Probably 18th century and embellished
The rectangular plate in a sandwork and echinus-moulded frame, surmounted by a triangular pediment enclosing an armorial cartouche issuing foliate scrolls, regilt, the reverse inscribed in chalk 'LENYGONS(?)' and '4597' and '4745'

Lot Essay

The unusual arched top to the plate supporting a scalloped cartouche in a broken pediment, appears on a George II giltwood pier glass illustrated in G. Child, World Mirrors 1650-1900, London, 1990, p. 87, fig. 83 and on another George II pier glass sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 10 July 1992, lot 68.
