Lot Essay

A related mahogany serpentine card-table, one of a pair, with swagged urn-carved frieze is illustrated in S. Whittington & C. Claxton-Stevens, 18th Century English Furniture: The Norman Adams Collection, Woodbridge, 1983, p. 316. A similar, plain mahogany serpentine card-table was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 24 February 1995, lot 67 (£4,370).
