Lot Essay

The vignette of the nature deity Venus derives from Jean-Baptiste Michel's engraving after F. Boucher issued in 1781 and entitled 'Venus sortant du Bain' (P. Jean-Richard, l'Oeuvre gravé de François Boucher, Paris, 1978, no. 1425).
