Lot Essay

The 'chiffonier' pier-table serves as a mobile library, and a Grecian wave-scrolled pediment above its stepped book-shelves, while its columnar legs are reed-cabled in the Egyptian fashion as illustrated in an 1805 commode pattern in George Smith's, Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1808 (pl. 117).
