Lot Essay

The prototype for these sideboard-tables appears to have been a gilt-gesso table in the collection of Colonel N. R. Colville and illustrated in Percy Macquoid's Dictionary of English Furniture, vol. III, London, 1924, p. 280, fig. 19. A similar, early 20th century table of related form was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 14 November 1991, lot 139.
