Lot Essay

Aline Henderson was the eldest daughter of Henry William Henderson (1862-1931), the brother of Lord Faringdon of Buscot Park, Oxfordshire, a financier of exceptional skill and ability. The Hendersons were important Pre-Raphaelite patrons and had close relations with a number of painters including Burne-Jones (1833-1898), and John William Waterhouse (1849-1917). Works by George Frederic Watts, Ford Maddox Brown, Frederic Leighton, Gabriel Rossetti and others were in the collection

Aline Henderson married Brigadier-General Wigan on 15 February 1911.
