Later in the 17th century, the house passed into the Tremayne family and it was under the ownership of the Hon. Mrs. Tremayne that it was first photographed by Country Life in 1899. It could well have been for this reason that the curtains were bought for the house. The house remained in the family until the death of Miss Tremayne in 1937 when the accumulation of centuries of Wise and Tremayne occupation were sold off in a three day sale. Colonel Norman Colville would almost certainly have bought these curtains at that sale, being a near neighbour in Cornwall and who was at that time forming an exceptional collection of English furniture. He also had a deep-seated interest in early upholstery and Textiles. THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN Formerly in the collection of Colonel Norman Colville M.C. (1893-1974)
