Lot Essay

A devotee of mountaineering, Yoshida Hiroshi established the Nihon Sangakuga Kyokai (the Japan Alpine Artist Association) and spent two months each summer climbing the Japan Alps. His designs for a series of prints on the subject are dated to 1926 by his son Yoshida Hodaka. For another view of this mountain by Hiroshige II, see lot 112.
