Lot Essay

Byun, who lives in New York, graduated from Chung-Ang University in Seoul in 1974 and studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1981 to 1984. He had one-person exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern Art, Seoul in 1980 and at Debec Plaza Gallery, Daegu in 2000. He also had one-person exhibitions at Prezant Gallery, New York in 1993 and at Space Untitled Gallery, New York in 1996 and 1997. In 2001 his work was exhibited in "Illusion and Reality: Hyperrealism Painting in Korea and America" at the Ho-Am Art Museum, Seoul. His paintings are in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Kwachon, Korea and the Cleveland Museum of Art, among others.
