Comprising a clock and a pair of seven-light candelabra; the clock surmounted by a scantily clad female figure, holding a star-studded veil, emblematic of night, a putto to her feet, on a naturalistic base inscribed Jules Graux Fondeur to the side, Math. Moreau to the back, on a stepped spreading base, centred to the front by a white enamel dial inscribed JULES GRAUX ET CIE, BRONZES D'ART, PARIS, surmounted by comedian masks, on feet
The clock: 31½ in. (80 cm.) high;

Lot Essay

Born in 1822, Mathurin Moreau (d.1912) studied under his father Jean Baptiste Moreau. He exhibited at the Salon, wining a medal in 1877 and another at the 1900 Paris Great Exhibition. He speciliased in allegorical and classical groups, statuettes of historic personalities and busts of his centemporaries.
