The first and second birds remain unidentified, although the second may be the blue-faced 'perruche erythoptere' of south-east Australia (for which see Zoologie, p.27). The third study of the Prince Regent bird was copied from Lewin's engraved version of 1805 as the specimen the French purchased was lost in the shipwreck in the Falklands. The last watercolour of a magpie found in Sydney was from a live bird taken back to France and donated by Freycinet to the Museum in Paris. The bird was still alive in 1824.
