A Thangka of Black Jambhala
Tibet, 18th Century
Very finely painted with Black Jambhala depicted at center striding in alidhasana over a prostrated figure holding a skullcup and a mongoose spewing jewels, wearing swirling orange and green sashes and surrounded by a circular red aureole with multicolored rim; above him with eight princely figures painted with gold outline on clouds centered by two forms of Vajrapani in fiery aureoles; below, amidst clouds, trees and streams, are eight attendants each holding a mongoose centered by Vaishravana in an aureole, flanked by jewels and eight nagarajas emerging from swirling streams bearing tributes; the reverse consecrated at center with three fingerprints; mounted on a peach-colored silk brocade with dragons and cloudscrolls
