Canvas and Apple

In Barwe's work, symbols and objects appear to float on flat expanses of color. For this 'painters' painter', the creative process involves 'discarding all associations, preconceived notions, concepts, and the mind becomes an empty canvas.' One needs to be in an undisturbed state of mind where 'we travel, without fear, without sentiment' and 'witness the birth of a new image.' The relationship with a specific object, person or place is formed unconsciously, and 'it is discovered only when it manifests itself in the form of a painting.' (Dnyaneshwar Nadkarni, 'Prabhakar Barwe', Indian Painting Today 1981, Mumbai, Jehangir Art Gallery, 1981, p. 57.) Therefore, abstract concepts may emerge on the canvas as concrete forms and vice versa.
