Lot Essay

This urn is a scarce model produced by The Coalbrookdale Company who only produced terracotta goods between 1861 and 1867. In the official catalogue of the 1862 Exhibition, the Coalbrookdale terracotta items displayed were part of a group entry, under the name of Maw, George, Shropshire, Broseley and were categorised as a Collective series of architectural productions, illustrating the clay manufactures of the Shropshire Coal Field, and subtitled Sundry terra cotta vases, flower pots, stands and pedestals, orchid pots, mignionette boxes, flower and orange tree boxes, & c. Designed by Mr. Kremer. Manufactured by the Coalbrook Dale Company.
