AN AUSTRIAN WALNUT BURR-BIRCH, CHERRYWOOD AND PARQUETRY COMMODE, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Inlaid overall with fruitwood and ebony lines with figured burr-birch simulated panels, the eared moulded rectangular top surmounted by a conforming superstructure with tambour-shutter, inlaid with simulated fluting, enclosing a fitted interior with six small drawers, above three long drawers the angles inlaid with similar flutes, on later short ring-turned fluted legs terminating in moulded feet, minor restorations

Lot Essay

Conceived in the Austrian neo-classical or 'Josephinian' style of the 1780's. This elegant commode is embellished with various burr figured veneers and simulated fluting.
