A SMALL BLUE AND WHITE BOWL
Wanli six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle and of the period (1573-1619)
With rounded sides rising from a countersunk base, the exterior decorated with a frieze of ducks swimming in a lotus pond, and the interior with a central medallion of a fruiting peach tree, all within double-line borders and painted in rich tones of underglaze blue

Lot Essay

A similar design of aquatic birds and lotus can be found decorating the interior well of a Wanli-marked dish in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated in Elegant Form and Harmonious Decoration: Four Dynasties of Jingdezhen Porcelain, London, 1992, no. 91.
