A DUTCH BURR WALNUT AND FIGURED WALNUT LONG CASE CLOCK
19th century, Jan Henkels, Amsterdam
Inlaid overall with crossbanded lines, the moulded waved arched hood with a central carved bracket and pierced sound frets to the fronts and sides, with turned pilasters, surmounted by giltwood figural finials, above a shaped rectangular trunk door with a glazed lenticle, above a bombe plinth on claw and ball feet, the dial with silvered Roman chapter ring bearing the signature Jan Henkels/Amsterdam, the matt and engraved gilt centre with subsidiary silvered seconds dial, engraved: day, date, month and painted season apertures, above a rolling moon phase with its age shown above, alarm setting, and engraved harbour scene, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and Dutch strike on two bells
