The Canadian physician and sculptor Robert Tait McKenzie was known for his series of athletic male nudes in various olympic attitudes, such as diving and shot-put. He was awarded a silver medal at the St Louis Exhibition of 1904, and the Royal Swedish medal in 1912 for his relief of three hurdlers entitled 'The Joy of Effort' created for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He was also a competent and versatile athlete himself, as well as a lecturer in Anatomy and a specialist in rehabilitative medicine
