A RUSSIAN SILVER GILT AND ENAMEL VODKA SERVICE
Maker's mark of Ivan Semenovich Gubkin and Imperial warrant, Assayers mark of I. Avdeyer, Moscow 1857
Comprising a lidded pear shaped jug in the Eastern manner with applied cartouche shaped panels of blue enamel and scrolls on a silver matt ground with gilt highlighted scrolls, the knopped slender neck with spout and domed lid with ball finial, standing on a shaped oval tray with two geometric pierced handles and gallery fittings, holding eight goblets, each with niello scrolled panels and lappet rim, the tray engraved in English and Russian:
'Presented to Thomas Hodson Esq by the Manufacture of Egoriersk as a Testimonial of their respect and gratitude
Egoriervsk Government of Rasan, Russia, 1st of August 1859'
