STANLEY AND LIVINGSTONE

London Stereoscopic+Co.: seven miniature portrait photographs of Stanley and one of Livingstone, the photographs with blind-stamp 'London Stereoscopic Co.', each 3 9/16 x 2¼in. (90 x 57mm.), in an envelope inscribed 'after the finding of Livingstone'; together with two studio portrait photographs of Stanley, a postcard ('Sir H.M. Stanley') and two Livingstone cartes de visites by Maull & Co., (London), and Gurney & Son, New York; 4 photographs of Livingstone, Burton, Speke and Baker by John Thomson. (16)

A fine group of portraits including early sittings by Stanley, including two in African dress after the finding of Livingstone (by Gurney & Son, New York). The photographs by Thomson may well be those exhibited in the Victoria Gallery, 1890 (The Gallery, no.132)
