PIERRE POIVRE (1719-1786)

The Travels of a Philosopher, being observations on the customs, manners, arts, agriculture, and trade of several nations in Asia and Africa. Translated from the French. London: J. Davidson, 1769. 12°. (Some browning.) Contemporary sheep with morocco label, red speckled edges (upper joints split, extremities rubbed, spine blackened at head). One of two English translations which appeared in 1769, the other under the imprint of T. Becket.

An Account of South-West Barbary containing what is most remarkable in the territories of the King of Fez and Morocco. Written by a person who had been a slave there a considerable time ... to which are added two letters ..., edited by Simon Ockley (1678-1720). Half-title and folding engraved map. (Worm track in half-title and map.) Contemporary calf, red speckled edges (extremities rubbed, joints cracked, lower corners bumped).
