Provenance: Benjamin Gold, Armley House (bookplate). FIRST JOINT EDITION, forming an essential reference to early African exploration. The basis of the work was Leyden's Historical and Philosophical Sketch of the Discoveries and Settlements of Europeans in Northern and Western Africa, at the close of the Eighteenth Century (Edinburgh, 1799).
