WALKING STICKS
A Victorian tortoiseshell hafted snakewood walking stick, by Brigg of London. The gold collar inscribed "H.M. Stanley ...on his return to England 1890 from W. BURDETT-COUTTS" further stamped "GRIGG" and with assay marks, and African ivory hafted ebony case, the grip carved with a bust of Stanley wearing his helmet, the silver collar inscribed "H.M. Stanley".
Two of Stanleys most attractive walking sticks; the first a present from his old friend William Burdett-Coutts on his return from the Emin Pasha Expedition, a very useful gift for a man grown old by his 16 years in Africa. (2)
