STANLEY'S TRAVELLING PHOTOGRAPH CABINET

An oak photograph cabinet with two hinged doors each with metal opening knobs, and recessed support stand at the rear, the interior containing 8 photographs including a three quarter length photograph of Stanley looking left with arms crossed and 3 photographs of Lady Stanley in a common mount, with a further 2 photographs in common mounts on the inside of each door of Lady Stanley, on the left side as a young girl and on the right as a young woman, the interior of the cabinet lined with red velvet. 19 x 16in. (482 x 406mm.)

Lot Essay

An emotive collection of images of Dorothy Stanley nee Tennant, undoubtably assembled for Stanley by Dorothy, probably on the occasion of his only solo lecture tour (after his marriage) to South Africa in 1897. The cabinet and photographs are in good condition.
