STANLEY'S WATCH
A nickel open faced keyless lever 8-day goliath watch, Swiss, signed for Howell & James Ltd, London, circa 1890. Frosted gilt movement with large going barrel, bimetallic compensation balance, white enamel dial inscribed 'Howell & James Ld, To The Queen, London', Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands, nickel cuvette with paper label inscribed 'This watch clock belonged to H.M. Stanley and was always wound up by him - it hung at the foot of his bed and marked his death - Tuesday 10th May 1904 - 6am', plain nickel case, diameter 75mm. Set within red leather surround; together with Dorey Lester & Co silver Open Faced 8-Day Keyless Lever Pocket Watch. Swiss, circa 1900 with 18ct. gold oblong link chain (2)
