The History of a Voyage to the Malouine (or Falkland) Islands. London: 1771. 4° (260 x 196mm.) 7 engraved maps (4 folding), 9 engraved plates (3 folding). Contemporary speckled sheep (neatly rebacked and cornered, old red morocco lettering-piece laid down, some scuffing to cover).

Thomas Wilkinson (inscription dated 1772) -- H.C. Morewood (signature on title).
First edition in English of a work originally published in Berlin in 1769 under the title Journal Historique d'un voyage fait aux iles Malouïnes (see below for the second edition in French). The story of Louis de Bougainville's unsuccessful attempt to found a French colony on the Falkland Islands is told by the expedition's chaplain and naturalist, the Benedictine Antoine Pernety.
