RARE. 'Shackleton did not have a professional meteorologist, but barometric readings, temperatures ..., mean wind velocity and direction, cloud observations, and the drift direction of Mt. Erebus's steam plume were regularly taken by expedition members. The measurements obtained were considered as accurate as those obtained by professionals on other expeditions of the period' (Rosove).
