German Commemorative medal for Amundsen's Norwegian Antarctic Expedition, 1911, white metal, with a bust portrait of Amundsen in polar dress on the obverse, titled 'ZU EHREN ROALD AMUNDSEN D. DEUTSCHEN BRUDER GEPR MARZ 1912' around the circumference, 'DES KENNEN NORDSCHEN ENTDECKERS V[ON] SUD POL' flanking the portrait, a scene of Amundsen's tent and flag at the South Pole on the reverse, 'FRAMHEIM AUF KONIG HAAKON VII LAND' around the upper circumference and '16 DEC. 1911' flanking the tent, incused 'SILBER 890' on the rim, 1¼in. (3.2cm.) diameter
