WILHELM FILCHNER (1877-1957)
Zum sechsten Erdteil. Die zweite deutsch Südpolarexpedition. Berlin: Verlag Ullstein, 1922. Large 8° (270 x 190mm.) 2pp. publisher's advertisements at back. 2 folding maps (1 coloured), 1 folding plate, numerous illustrations (some full-page). Original blue cloth gilt.

'First deluxe edition' (Taurus). Taurus states that this 'is probably the first issue' and that it is 'printed on special paper'. Rosove does not give precedence to this issue, indeed he lists the cloth-backed boards issue first. A comparison between the two issues shows no difference in the paper used for the text. It seems likely that the cloth-bound issue would have been more expensive, but it is probably incorrect to designate it a 'deluxe' edition. Rosove 124.A2 ('Scarce'); Spence 457 (incorrect date); Taurus 98.

[With:] a fine copy of the first edition bound in cloth-backed boards. Conrad p.196; Rosove 124.A1 ('Scarce'); Spence 457; Taurus 99.
Special notice
