London: John Edward Taylor for Lovell Reeve, 1855. 2 volumes, 8° (253 x 160mm.) Half-titles, 24pp. publisher's advertisements dated 1 November 1855 at end of vol.I. 36 lithographic plates (12 printed in two or more tints (3 of these with touches of hand colouring)), 4 maps (3 folding and engraved (2 of these in pocket at end of vol.I), 1 lithographic), EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with a 'play-bill' printed on cream silk, advertising the performance at the 'Queens Arctic Theatre 1852 H.M.S. Assistance' on 9th November of 'The Irish Tutor' and 'The Silent Woman', the 'play-bill' folded and loose in pocket at end of vol.I. (Occasional light marginal staining to plates in vol.II.) Original dark blue cloth, blocked in gilt and blind (both volumes discreetly varnished, vol.II with neat repairs to spine and inner hinges reinforced).
