'The Discoverys Winter Quarters', manuscript map of part of Cape Armitage in pen and ink, coastline coloured in outline with blue pencil, the map noting 'Glacier Tongue', 'Turtle Rock', 'Danger Slope', 'Observation Hill', and 'Discovery' itself marked by 'Hut Point', with ship's position noted in latitude and longitude, bearing stamp in blue of 'Discovery Antarctic Expedition 1901', and with Shackleton's clipped signature laid down in top right hand corner (some light spotting and browning, owner's modern signature on verso), 261 x 212mm.

Provenance
Sent by the Discovery's carpenter (Frederick Ernest Dailey) to the grandfather of the present owner, foreman carpenter at Steven's shipyard, Dundee, during the construction of the ship.
