Details
IMPERIAL TRANS-ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION (1914-1917)

Autograph signatures of members of the expedition, including Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, Frank Worsley, Frank Wild, Tom Crean ('Tom Crean Daddy'), Thomas Orde-Lees, Reginald James, George Marston, Ernest Wild and Alfred Cheetham, together with Emily Shackleton and other Antarctic figures, including Adrien de Gerlache ('of the Belgica'), Sir Philip Brocklehurst (Nimrod), Herbert Ponting, George Abbott and W.W. Archer (Terra Nova) and others, dated by Emily Shackleton 'S.Y. Endurance, 16th July 1914', on one leaf, 160 x 200mm., in an autograph album.

A fine collection of Antarctic explorers' signatures, on the day of Queen Alexandra's visit to the Endurance. De Gerlache's presence is of interest: the Endurance (under the name Polaris) had previously belonged to him in a failed venture to run 'polar safaris' to the Arctic. The album was kept at a boarding house near the Endurance's berth. The ship sailed on 1 August.
