A brass plaque with a bust portrait of Sir Ernest Shackleton, in relief, inscribed below the portrait 'IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/OF SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON/WHO SOLEMNLY/INSUGURATED THE GYMNASIUM/OF THE/BRITISH AMERICAN SCHOOL/ON THE 26 NOVEMBER 1921 FORTY DAYS BEFORE HIS DEATH/IN THE ICE REGIONS', the inscription flanked by two penguins, the whole surmounted by a crest and inscription 'ANTARCTIC WASTES' 8 1/8in. (20.7cm.) high.
