At some point during his ownership of this guitar, John Entwistle had it refinished in white. The vendor subsequently had it professionally refinished in black whilst touring with The Pretty Things in the 1990s.

A 1962 Fender Precision Bass guitar, Serial No. 80965, in black finish, double cutaway body, maple neck, twenty fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, two pickups, two rotary controls, metal bridge/tailblock and imitation tortoiseshell pickguard; and a black rectangular hardshell case with orange plush lining; accompanied by an autograph letter from John Entwistle on The Bass Centre, 131, Wapping High St. London... headed stationery stating ...This is to certify that the 62 Fender Precision refinished white recently purchased by you was part of my collection S/N 8095, Yours faitfully, signed 1p.
