Lot Essay

The form of angular handle used on this piece (and on lot 129) gained polularity in London in the 1790's and seems to have found favour with William Trotter soon after. A Pembroke table by Young and Trotter of 1801, with a similar handle with the same characteristic faceted swelling centre is illustrated in The Regional Furniture Society Journal, Maney, 1992, At the Sign of The Pelican, Sebastian Pryke, pp. 11, fig. 2.
