Decorated with multi-coloured glass lustres, with a hinged marblised top and a stepped base with scrolled claw and ball feet

Lot Essay

The chest is likely to have been acquired for Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute, to add to the existing Byzantine splendour introduced to the mansion by John Critchton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Stuart (d. 1900) during the last quarter of the 19th Century
