Lot Essay

This writing desk of fine black-figured rosewood is designed in the Grecian manner; and with its plinth-supported, palm-wrapped and antique-fluted pillars relates to the antique fashion promoted by George Smith's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826. Its Bramah lock bears the Piccadilly address first occupied by the firm in 1800.
