A VERY FINE ISFAHAN FARSHCHIAN RUG
Iran, circa 1940
The tomato-red field with spiralling tendrils terminating in arabesques and issuing flowering vine and serrated leaves around a cusped concentric light blue, ivory and indigo panelled palmette and arabesque interlaced medallion with pendants, in a frame of similar part panels, in an indigo border of elaborate palmettes, floral panels and flowering vine between ivory boteh and flowering vine and bottle-green palmette vine stripes, plain outer red stripe, braided warps at one end, upper end with signature cartouche, minute cobbelled repair in one corner, a few minute splits taped on reverse
