Circa 1810, blue sceptre mark, gilder's 121. mark in gold
The centre painted in sepia with figures at discussion by shrubs before the colonnade of Schloss Sanssouci, a windmill in the distance to the right, the well and edge of border with a green band of stylised foliage and flowerheads edged with concentric gilt bands, within a gilt band of matt-gilt floral Roman medallions

Lot Essay

The scene depicts the approach to the palace of Sanssouci from the north. The semi-circular colonnade encloses the Ehrenhof (Courtyard of Honour) with 44 pairs of Corinthian columns at the ecntre of which is a ramped entrance. The windmill to the right is the Historische Mühle (Historic Mill).
