Châteauneuf-du-Pape--Vintage 1994
Rhône. Château de Beaucastel In original wooden case
"The 1994 Chateauneuf du Pape is a black/ruby/purple wine with sweet, expansive, chewy fruit. It reminds me of a more concentrated 1985, with nearly the character and size of the prodigious 1989. It possesses the lowest percentage of Grenache (30 of any Chateauneuf du Pape, and the highest percentage of Mourvedre (40. I am not sure the 1994 will ever close down because it is such a sweet, rich, thick, chewy wine with full body, and a superb nose of smoky black fruits, Asian spices, licorice, olives, and herbs. Full, concentrated, and lush, it should drink well for 15-20 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Issue 106, 10/31/96
